SONNY

*Data from the top 921 songs by # of streams, as of June 20th, 2023

From the listener's perspective...

We liked to listen to music in major keys, though the minor mode is not neglected, and we generally prefer clean songs over explicit songs.
We enjoyed songs that were energetic and danceable, had a vocal element, and were produced in a studio setting, rather than live.

The top 5 most streamed songs on Spotify as of June 2023 all came from some well-known pop and rap artists. These songs were heard by millions, if not billions, of people around the world.

From the artist's perspective...

If you released a song with explicit language in the late '90s or early '00s, it was more likely that your song would be a hit in 2023 rather than a clean song from the same time.

Thinking about when to release your song...

Hit songs in a major key were more likely to be released in the Summer and Fall...

...happier songs in the Winter (Holiday music, anyone?)...

...and the longest songs in the Spring.

What time of the year were the hits released in?

The hits had a wide range of release years and days, but more of the hits were released in late Fall or late Spring, except for the 1st of the year, which sees more releases than any other day.
